12 Tips For Boosting Body Confidence

A confident woman is easy to spot. She stands up tall, looks straight ahead and simply looks happy and proud to be in her own skin.

Sadly, many women struggle with self-confidence issues and find it difficult to feel comfortable in their own skin. Perhaps they are embarrassed by their weight, self-conscious of their nose or anxious about how others will react to their appearance.

Regardless of how you feel about yourself, if you follow these 9 simple tips, you too can boost your body confidence and learn to love yourself for who you are.

  1. Stop comparing yourself

Why do we do it? Why do we compare ourselves to others? We watch television, see them online and read about them in our favourite magazines and compare ourselves to those perfect airbrushed women.

That’s right, we are comparing ourselves to fake bodies, and it’s crazy. Don’t think about all the ‘perfect’ woman, instead focus on what you love about your own body.

  1. Change the things you don’t like

While it’s important to love ourselves for who we are, if there is something that you don’t like about yourself, change it. Whether it’s your hair, clothes or weight, if there is something you don’t like about yourself, make an effort to change it.

If, for example, you dislike the shape of your nose, consider having a nose job to fix it. Or, if your patchy eyebrows have always bothered you, think about having an eyebrow transplant to fix it. Cosmetic surgery isn’t always the answer, but if there is something about yourself that you dislike and is getting your down, there is no reason not to change it.

  1. Dress fashionably

Getting into a rut where you dress in the same thing day in, day out, is far too easy. Instead of wearing the same outfit each day, make a habit of changing up your look now and then.

Head to the shops and do a little shopping, pick out outfits that flatter your figure and make you feel happy and confident about your appearance.

  1. Don’t obsess over your weight

Understand that weight and health are not the same thing. As long as you lead a healthy lifestyle, your weight doesn’t matter – it’s just a number on a scale.

If your body is healthy, you will feel happier and more confident in yourself. So make an effort to eat healthily and exercise regularly, but don’t focus on your weight.

  1. Have a photoshoot done

It may sound like a strange idea, but it’s amazing how much confidence you will gain from posing for a photographer for an hour or two.

Buy a makeover and photo package and spend the day being pampered, before having your photos taken. There is something about the way professional photographers capture images that will make you look fabulous and your confidence soar.

  1. Tell yourself what you like about your body

Instead of thinking about what you don’t like, focus your attention on what you do like about yourself.

Perhaps you love your hair, your small waistline and plump lips. Focus on the things you love about yourself and let the bad things fade away.

  1. Be active

Research has shown that people who are active and exercise on a regular basis tend to have higher confidence levels.

If you don’t already exercise regularly, take up running, cycling or another form of exercise and give your confidence levels a boost. If you don’t fancy starting a new sport alone, why not ask a friend to join you?

  1. Make an effort

Building confidence takes time and effort and won’t happen overnight. Be prepared to make an effort and step outside of your comfort zone to improve your confidence levels.

  1. Celebrate your body

Whether you are a size six or a size 14, don’t be embarrassed about your body, celebrate it. You may not be as skinny as a supermodel, but your body is strong and beautiful and is nothing to be ashamed of.

Make an effort to celebrate your body by not trying to cover it up at every opportunity, start off walking around your home in your underwear and admire your body in a mirror. Don’t focus on your flaws, focus on what you love about your body.

  1. Treat your body

To improve how you feel about your body, make an effort to make your body feel nice. Go for a massage, have pedicures, get waxed – treat your body how it deserves to be treated.

By treating your body you will learn to love and care for it and understand just how beautiful your body really is.

  1. Eat healthy foods

It might sound strange, but it’s amazing how much better you will feel about yourself if you make an effort to eat healthily.

Avoid eating foods high in sugar and fat and instead munch on healthy foods like fruits, veggies, lean meats, pulses, seeds, and nuts. Trust us on this, eat healthily and you will feel better about yourself.

  1. Take up ballet

The key to accepting your body for what it is and learning to love it is understanding just how beautiful it is, and practicing ballet is the perfect way to do that.

Practising ballet requires your body to move in different ways, showcasing your body’s strength and flexibility. Ask a friend to photograph you while you dance and you to, will see just how beautiful your body can be.
