12 Ways To Stay Stylish This Winter

As the winter months close in, it’s temping to forego fashion altogether and wrap yourself up in your dressing gown until the sun comes out again. Believe it or not, there are ways to look stylish while staying cozy and warm, it just takes a little more imagination than in the summer months. Practicality is still important, but a little chill shouldn’t stop you from looking your best this winter.

  1. Find your dream coat. Your most important purchase this winter will be your coat. A classic peacoat is a timeless style that can be worn year after year as long as you take good care of it. Pick a neutral dark shade that you can wear over any outfit and avoid white unless you’re willing to make a major effort keeping it clean.
  2. Wear cute hats. After you’ve picked out your new winter coat, you can accessorize and stay cozy in a stylish hat. If you’re hoping for a toned down, formal look then stick with neutral shades, but don’t be afraid to experiment with brighter colors for your hats- they can really add a fun twist to any outfit.
  3. Invest in chic gloves. Gloves are an absolute necessity for colder climates come winter time, but they don’t have to be the chunky, dull type you wore as a kid. A sleek pair of leather gloves with a warm lining will look effortlessly stylish, while a warm woollen pair can brighten up your look. Find your perfect pair and then try not to lose them before Christmas.
  4. Wear functional but stylish boots. There’s nothing wrong with re-heeling your favorite old pair this winter, but a nice new set of boots might rejuvenate your winter wardrobe. Opt for a small heel to add a splash of style to your practical footwear.
  5. Layer up. You can easily incorporate your warmer weather clothing to your winter wardrobe with some careful layering. Wear thin cotton tank tops under your clothes to add extra warmth and layer light tops and cardigans for a chic winter look.
  6. Find warm accessories. A signature scarf that keeps you warm and adds something extra to your outfit
  7. Warm up in a thick knit. Chunky cable knits don’t have to be frumpy. Buy thick knits that you can wear over any outfit, and belt the sweater to draw attention to your waist. If you really hate the bulky feel of a woolen knit then consider investing in a chic cashmere sweater- they may be pricy but they’re the warmest material around and will last for years if you take good care of them.
  8. Use your summer clothes. Don’t abandon your entire wardrobe as soon as the temperature starts to plummet. Your summer dresses can easily be repurposed with a long sleeved shirt underneath, a cardigan and a comfortable pair of tights. Experiment with your wardrobe to create new winter looks.
  9. Try out faux fur. A great faux fur coat or vest looks glamorous and festive without being unethical.
  10. Lengthen your socks. Thanks in part to the Gossip Girl effect, knee high socks have made a major comeback in recent years. Wear them with your skirts instead of tights for new a twist on a classic look, or wear underneath trousers for purely practical reasons.
  11. Wear over-the-knee boots. Tall boots are one of this season’s hottest trends. They can replace your tights for instant winter warmth and make an instant fashion statement. Wear with confidence and a high heel.
  12. Embrace higher necklines. A scarf isn’t strictly necessary for those looking to stay chic and cozy this winter. Raise your neckline with a turtleneck or simple button up to keep the cold out.
