12 Ways To Dress Yourself Younger

You’d be amazed at how easily the way you dress can influence how old you look. If you’re still wearing the same outfits you were last century then it’ll show, whereas the right outfit can make you look 10 years younger in an instant. Here are 12 easy ways to look younger today without visiting a plastic surgeon.

  1. Go form fitting. As you get older you may feel a little less attractive than you once did, so it can be tempting to swallow up your figure with loose, baggy clothing. Resist the temptation and flatter your shape with form fitting clothes- nothing too tight, but something that won’t drown you and make you look larger than you really are.
  2. Buy a great pair of jeans. Find the right fit and you can wear the same pair of jeans all the time. Look for a snug fit that doesn’t leave any baggy areas, and invest in a stylish slim cut for a younger look. You can tuck them into boots and wear anytime with flats or heels for a chic but casual style.
  3. Revamp your underwear. If you haven’t already invested in shapewear then you’re seriously missing out. Spanx may be the most well known brand but there are plenty of other fitted undergarments out there that will automatically slim you down and create a smoother silhouette.
  4. Update your suits. A retro suit will most likely look more old fashioned than vintage, so make sure your suit is still on trend to avoid looking older than you want to. You don’t necessarily have to splash out on a whole new wardrobe- you can take your favorite old suits to a tailor and get them hemmed and re-cut for a more modern take on the classic style.
  5. Get some killer heels. Every woman needs an amazing pair of heels to feel young and vibrant. Find a comfortable but fashionable pair and wear them whenever you feel like standing out from the crowd.
  6. Brighten up with color. Older women tend to veer toward darker colors and more neutral shades. This may not be doing you any favors- brighter colors will liven up your outfit and bring out the color in your face.
  7. Be wary of trends. Playing the fashion victim doesn’t really work for any age group, but it’s especially risky when your twenties are far behind you. Being aware of fashion trends is great, but pick the styles that suit you rather than blindly following fads.
  8. Mix up your look. Wearing the same thing for years on end is an easy trap to fall into as you age. Reinvigorate your wardrobe with a few new pieces and mix and match old garments to create a whole new look for yourself.
  9. Embrace nautical stripes. Stripes never go out of style, and they look great on people of all ages. Buy a chic nautical t-shirt and wear with a tailored blazer to embrace your inner Audrey Hepburn.
  10. Avoid overexposure. You certainly shouldn’t hide yourself away as you age, but avoid mutton dressed as lamb syndrome by limiting the amount of cleavage and leg on show. If you do want to show off a little skin, pick one body part to focus on and cover up the rest.
  11. Wear knee length skirts. Knee length is ideal for creating a fashionable silhouette. Longer skirts can look frumpy and anything shorter may give the impression that you’re trying too hard. Pair your skirt with your killer heels and you’ll look instantly younger.
  12. Experiment with belts. Many of us wear the same belts for years and forget that this accessory can be a crucial element of any outfit. Buy some chunky wide waist belts to cinch in a dress and embrace skinny styles to wear with trousers and cardigans.
