12 Easy Ways To Pimp Your Ride

If your car is feeling a little lackluster these days and you’re hoping to boost your daily commute with some auto upgrades, you’re in luck. There are plenty of inexpensive ways to improve your car without having to trade it in for a new model. Try out some of these simple upgrades and you’ll be riding in style in no time.

  1. Personalize your gear shift. All shift sticks look pretty much the same, but yours doesn’t have to be gray and boring. Give your shift knob a little more personality by adding your own customization- these caps are fairly inexpensive and can make your car feel more like your own without having to splash out on a major upgrade.
  2. Boost your sound system. The most popular customization that many people opt for tends to be in the audio system of the car. There’s no need to go totally overboard for this one, unless you really like to listen to your music at top volume for the whole road to hear, but trading in a basic audio system for something a little more fancy can make a big difference to your travel experience.
  3. Multi-CD capability. For those that still like to listen to CDs in the car rather than plugging in an MP3 player, a multi-CD player can make things a lot more fun. These devices are easy to install in your trunk or under the front seat, and they’ll allow you to switch between a variety of albums while you drive.
  4. Switch up your license plates. Vanity plates get a bad rap among some circles, but they can be a fun way of personalising your car without spending a ton of money. They usually cost around $100 in most states, and you’ll be able to display your name, the name of your business, or any other combination of (non obscene) letters that you can think of.
  5. Watch a movie on the move. This one is obviously for the passengers rather than the drivers, but it can make long car trips with kids far more peaceful for the whole family. Screens can be fitted into the back of your headrest or attached with clips, and can be synched up with your audio system to create a surround sound experience on the road.
  6. Stick on some decals. If you really want to add some creativity to your vehicle, opt for something a little less permanent than paint with inexpensive stick-on decals.
  7. Install a backseat coat rack. This one is more practical than fun, but it can definitely be handy if you’re commuting to work in a suit. Hang your jacket on a rack that attaches to your seat and arrive at work looking smooth and crease-free.
  8. Add in a relaxing car cushion. If your drivers seat is uncomfortable and leaves you feeling stiff after a few hours on the road, get a luxury car cushion. These cushions can heat up to keep you warm in the winter and give you a soothing backrub while you drive- and they shouldn’t set you back much further than $40.
  9. Get a high tech bumper sticker. Decal bumper stickers with witty sayings are a thing of the past. These days, you can get LED screens that attach to your license plate. The message can be updated by text message, so your road rage can quickly be broadcasted for the world to see.
  10. Get your own personal mini fridge. Sick of drinking warm sodas on long car rides? Install a mini fridge into your front seat and you’ll have access to ice cold drinks wherever you are.
  11. Tint your windows. Window tints can make your drive more comfortable by reducing the glare that comes through while you drive- they also look pretty cool. Just make sure your tint is at the legal level- some US states have restrictions on just how dark your window can be.
  12. Swap your steering wheel. If you’re sick of staring at the same wheel every day, trade yours in for a newer model. You can get race car steering wheels online as well as other personalized styles that will make you feel more at home in the front seat.
